Would you like to make this site your homepage? It's fast and easy...
Yes, Please make this my home page!
Welcome To
The DOSWeb
You have reached the DOSWeb! Here, you will find lots of information for
the MS-DOS (and DOS clone) operating systems. This site focues on networking
in DOS for now.
Site News
Jan 1 2001 Wow, when was the last time I updated this? Anywho.. I've gotten around to remembering this site exists and that it's my site.. so maybe I'll actually start working on it soon. Maybe I can put some nifty info on cable modems/DSL/Ethernet network connections on this thing. :-) It'll give me a reason to set up a DOS box again, at any rate.
Files aren't working yet. Some pages are still missing.
The DOSWeb has a new home at http://dosweb.8m.com (provided by FreeServers.com). I have enough space on this server (20 megabytes!) to hold a fairly decent amount of DOS apps and the like.
Getting DOS
You can still get DOS now. Caldera's DR-DOS is free for non-commercial use,
and there's a new FreeDOS project. There are other DOSes, like RTX DOS,
which you can find on Yahoo!.
- Caldera Makers of DR-DOS 7.02, a
cool DOS with a multitasker, Stacker disk compression, Personal NetWare, and
more neat stuff.
- FreeDOS FreeDOS is a new DOS
clone that strives to be a lot like DOS 3.3 (this is the last DOS version
with major upgrades; later versions just up-ped the utilities and added
trivial changes). It's worth looking at, as it contains a devlopment
enviroment, Internet apps, and other stuff.
DOS Internet
This is the jewel of the DOSWeb. You =can= get the Internet on that old DOS
box! The DOSWeb has a tutorial about hooking your machine to the 'Net, as
well as programs for you to use. There's a lot of neat stuff people don't
know about to get on the Net. Some of this stuff rivals Windows
utilities.
Without further ado,
- Getting Starting A tutorial on
getting your DOS machine on the Internet using an ISP. Concentrates on
using PPP for the connection, although SLIP connections (which are more
rare) are touched on as well.
